Spires, Little Canfield
Realm are a developer that finance and build their own remarkable properties; both barn conversions and in the case of Spires, new builds homes. Mark has a great eye for detail, using contrasting materials to create unique finishes.
The brief was for us to come up with designs for the following areas; - The 'main kitchen' - to include an island with vented hob/downdraft extractor which had already been first fixed. - Utility and boot storage area - Pantry/larder storage
To create a sleek, modern and uncluttered appearance we went with a handleless rail kitchen using a concrete door and aluminium rail profile. We ran full height, tall units along the side wall to house the tall integrated fridge, tall integrated freezer and ovens/microwaves. The island housed an induction hob with downdraft extractor and the sink run of course included an integrated dishwasher.
The small alcove area had previously been discussed for us to house an American style fridge freezer, but instead we create a larder/pantry unit to house the kettle and toaster, as well as offer more storage.
The utility was kept simple - washing and drying facilities as well as plenty of storage to hang coats. Finally, the large pantry area off the handleless kitchen was designed to offer a colder storage area for food; this area was kept un-heated and the design maximised the storage capabilities of this area.
The finished kitchen was sleek and minimalist, offered island seating and lots of storage. Cooking appliances were Neff with a Quooker Flex boiling water tap for added convenience. The finished worksurfaces were 20mm Quartz in Strata Snowfall and included mitred downstands (legs) for that luxury finish.
